 Rendering is FINISHED!
This rendering is the product of hours of work looking at and editing rough sketches to get a final version of the rendering. The rendering serves as a visual aid for builders to help visualize the objects to be created as well as for the decorations team to help with color coordination. Stay tuned to cpprosefloat.org for more updates!

 2010 Concept Announcement
Cal Poly Rose Float has chosen their entry design for the 2010 Tournament of Roses Parade! This year's float depicts a barber shop scene with an interesting twist…monkeys are the barbers! Yes, this year's theme is a jungle barbershop where monkeys are cutting other animals' hair. Some young, some old, this is a truly diversified bunch. This exciting float was chosen after a design competition where both campuses (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Pomona) reviewed over 85 designs and selected their top three. After the design competition, all three designs were submitted to the Tournament of Roses for their final approval. All three of Cal Poly's designs were approved and the top concept was taken to the drawing board, where both campuses came together and decided on the basic elements that will be going onto the float. After two days of discussion, the elements to be put on the float were split- some to be made by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and some to be made by Cal Poly Pomona. The next phase of design is to develop the scale drawings and layout as well as the final rendering for the float. The rendering is an artist's depiction of what the float will look like when it is completed. [The preliminary design can be seen below.]

Thank you to everyone that submitted a concept in this year’s Cal Poly Concept Contest. The design competition accepts entries from anyone, anywhere. Some of the concepts were introduced from elementary school classrooms while others were introduced from professional artists across the nation. The selected concept for our 2010 float was designed by Andrea Swanson and Rick Stover, who were also the concept designers of the 2007 Cal Poly Rose Float entry, Arctic Antics.

Cal Poly Pomona Rose Float will continually update their website with more information.

 2010 Parade Theme Announced
Yesterday the Tournament of Roses Assosciation announced the theme of the 2010 parade will be "2010: A Cut Above the Rest." This is all we are given to use as our yardstick for coming up with a themed float for this year. In a press release found HERE we get this quote from President Gary DiSano.

"I chose 2010: A Cut Above the Rest as the theme for the 2010 Rose Parade because the Tournament strives to put a Parade and Game together every year, that are better than the last," says DiSano. "With millions of spectators in person and on television on January first, we feel that America and the world look to Pasadena every New Year’s Day to bring them a celebration better than any other. 2010 will be a unique year with the hosting of the Citi BCS National Championship Game in addition to our annual Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game and we are excited to have all eyes on Pasadena once again."

Please see the post below for a link to the form, which has more instructions on how to submit your design. Please note that designs MUST be submitted NO LATER than Friday February 6, 2009. we have our design contest the next day, on February 7, 2009, so if we don't have your design by then, we're not going to be able to consider it.

Please e-mail Marla Franco at mfranco@csupomona.edu
